On July 11, 2018, the Minister of State For Administrative Reform  Dr.Inaya Ezzedine chaired a meeting at the Ministry’s premises to discuss the executive steps for the integrated plan designed to manage the waste crisis in Tyr and discuss the solid waste situation and conditions in the city.

Among those present at the meeting, were the president of Tyr’s Union of Municipalities Mr. Hassan Dbouk, the representatives of the United Nations Development Programme UNDP and Council of Development and Reconstruction CDR, OMSAR’s team, its technical consultants, and Ain Baal plant operational improvements team.

Highlighting the importance of establishing a roadmap for waste management which integrates the full cycle from waste production to its treatment, H.E. Minister Ezzedine advised that the Ain Baal plant in Tyr resumes operations as soon as possible in coordination with all concerned parties.

The Minister added that this would require awareness campaigns and cooperation between all stakeholders involved and affected by the crisis including but not limited to the state, municipalities, the civil society and the citizens.

H.E Minister Ezzedine expressed hopes that the country would reach a solution for the waste crisis as soon as possible.

The current waste situation in Tyre as well as conditions at the Ain Baal treatment plant were discussed during the meeting, and discussions about an awareness campaign for solid waste management also took place.

The Ministry’ taskforce also explained the different components of the solid waste management integrated plan that would lead to an improvement of waste treatment and waste sorting from the source.
